Business and Risk Management for Farm Women iCal

Friday, January 31 2014 1:00 AM - 1:00 AM

Here in Western New York many farm women find themselves in the thick of handling the day-to-day aspects of running the “business” side of farms.  Everything from financial record keeping and herd or field records to tracking down the right form or tidbit of information required to comply with a regulation or provide a report to the insurance company or being certain employees are receiving all the information they need with their paychecks are tasks many times handled by a key woman at the farm.  These talents are often learned by experience and trial and error. When someone steps into the “business” job on the farm for the first time it can be a little overwhelming.

In Northwestern New York, Annie’s Project will be offered at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Offices in Albion, Mt. Morris and Newark. The workshops will be facilitated by members of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Northwest New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team.  The registration deadline has been extended to January 31st. The course costs $60 per person with limited scholarships available to those who inquire.  Interested farm women can find a brochure or register on-line at  To learn more about Annie’s Project, please contact Joan Sinclair Petzen at or 585-786-2251, ext. 122.
