Canandaigua, NY – There is an increasing desire by small land owners to recoup some of their property taxes by raising an agricultural commodity. For some it is the beauty of the shapes and colors of flowers that lure them into the business of growing and selling cut flowers; while those with an eye on financial gain see potential profits of several thousand dollars per acre. While others who already grow fruits and vegetables maybe looking to expand their offerings at the roadside stand, farmers’ markets, or CSA.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is offering a workshop on growing cut flowers on Thursday, December 12, 2013, 9:30 am to Noon. The workshop will be held at the Cooperative Extension Center, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
If you have an interest in growing cut flowers and just beginning or an experienced grower, you will want to hear Dr. Chris Wien from the Department of Horticulture at Cornell University, as he presents information about field and high tunnels cut flower production in New York. Other presenters include cut flower growers; Jana Lamboy who will describe her operation and her marketing strategies; and Nellie Gardner will address her top ten sellers and how she grows and markets them.
The workshop fee is $25.00 per person.
