The MIddlesex Heritage Group has announced the annual Seneca Heritage Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Overacker Schoolhouse, corner of Route 364 and North Vine Valley Road.
This free event is open to the public and will include displays in the 1874 restored schoolhouse as well as guest speaker, Jane Mt. Pleasant from Cornell University, an expert on white corn and Iroquois agriculture; Tonia Loran, a Native American story teller, and Ronnie Reiter, children’s craft demonstrator. Events will lead up to the annual bonfire on Bare Hill signaling start of the “Ring of Fire” around Canandaigua Lake.
Watch cooking demonstrations using white corn and enjoy samples of Three Sisters Soup, corn bread and roasted corn flour cookies. Recipes will be available and white corn products will be for sale.
