Demo Garden Open House iCal

Saturday, June 8 2013 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners' are hosting an open house at their demonstration garden, located on the east side of the North Seneca Ambulance building on North Road in Waterloo on Saturday, June 8th from 10AM to 11AM.  The garden was started last year in what was an empty field.  The area now has composting, 12 raised beds full of vegetables, a newly planted butterfly garden, and a Native American garden area, complete with fencing, a sign and picnic table.  Master Gardeners will be there to answer questions and show the public what they can do in a small space.
Come and see what is growing in our garden.  Planted and maintained by the Master Gardeners, the garden features nine 3x3 foot raised beds that are planted with various vegetables, strawberries and some flowers and herbs to attract beneficial insects to the garden.  Learn how and why we do this.  There are also 3 longer raised beds with various plantings, including herbs, some potatoes in barrels, straw bales being planted with veggies, a new butterfly garden, blueberries in tubs, and long rows of mounds of various Native American crops, such as tobacco, Jerusalem artichoke, and the "three sisters", intercroppings of corn, beans and squash.  Learn about these various growing methods and see what might work for you.  Free seeds, handouts and your gardening questions answered by the master gardeners during the one hour garden tour and information session.  Spinach and lettuce should be ready for sampling, so stop by!
In case of rain, bring an umbrella and tour the gardens anyway.  Please park in the back parking lot of the ambulance so as not to block any emergency vehicles.
