Saturday, June 15, 2013
10:00 am OR 2:30 pm
227 West Avenue, Canandaigua, NY 14424

The black walnut is a handsome tree often grown for shade and occasionally, for its nuts. While some plants grow near black walnuts, there are many whose growth is stunted or they will not grow at all. These plants may seem to grow well at first, they will suddenly exhibit leaf yellowing, wilting, and eventual death.

So what's a gardener to do?
Well, attend the walk-around garden talk: Gardening Under Black Walnuts --sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Ontario County. Master Gardener, John Norvell invites you to join him in his garden at 227 West Avenue, Canandaigua.

He will discuss problems associated with Black Walnut dominated areas, plants that will not grow near Black Walnuts, species that will tolerate the tree, and the use of container gardening as an alternative for species that won't grow beneath Black Walnuts.

Fee: $5.00 per person, paid in advance. Registration is required. Each class is limited to 12 people.

To register: send payment to Cornell Cooperative Extension, Attn.: Nancy, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 and make check payable to Cornell Cooperative Extension.
