DESCRIPTION:Thursday, January 24, 20137:00 PM - 8:30 PMCornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 Canandaigua, NY - Farmers and other private landowners have the right to restrict future building or development on their property with a conservation easement.  Families in the Finger Lakes tend to use this voluntary process to ensure that their lands are used in ways they find desirable well into the future. Conservation easements are created through a transfer of certain property rights from a landowner to a qualified organization or government body. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is hosting a special workshop for landowners who are interested in the conservation easement process.  Elizabeth Newbold and Davis Diaz of the Finger Lakes Land Trust will review the basic points of conservation easement creation for farmland protection or for private woodlots, lake property, and other situations.  The workshop will cover legal considerations with conservation easements, pitfalls of this approach to land preservation, the role of estate planning, tax implications, and where to obtain additional information.  This is a good opportunity for farmers and other families who have considered private means of land protection and want to be diligent throughout the process. Fee: $15.00 per family. Pre-registration is required by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County at (585) 394-3977 x427 or e-mail Nancy with your full contact information (name, address, and phone number) to nea8@cornell.edu
