DESCRIPTION:Maranatha Baptist Church plans to celebrate four decades as a congregation with a special service October 21. The guest speaker is Claude Slate, senior pastor of Colonial Baptist Church in Rodgers, Ark. Guest musicians Ellen and Alan Ives will sing and play from the broad repertoire of musical instruments they have mastered. The public is invited to attend the services and partake of the free lunch on the grounds, which will include a pig roast. Anyone who has previously visited or regularly attended Maranatha is particularly invited to reminisce and enjoy looking at old photos and memorabilia depicting the rural church's history.
 
Founded 40 years ago, the church has grown from a handful of founding members to a congregation of more than a hundred. An alfalfa field donated by a local farmer provided a site for the church, whose buildings now house an auditorium, Sunday school classrooms, gymnasium, school, guest rooms, school principal's apartment, and administrative offices.
 
The church ministries include a baby and toddler nursery during all services, Sunday school for all ages, Maranatha Christian School (teaching grades K-12), Lyons High School Bible club, Scripture collation, Petro truck stop services, and weekly nursing home services.
 
The Anniversary Sunday will begin at 10 a.m. and culminate with an afternoon service at 2 p.m. There will be no evening service.
 
Regular services are Sundays at 10 a.m. (Sunday school), 11 a.m. (worship service), and 6 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. A staffed nursery is available for babies and toddlers. The building is handicapped accessible.
 
Maranatha Baptist Church is an independent, fundamental Baptist church with a conservative music program and Bible-based teaching and preaching.
