Many of us, however, are confused by claims like “grass-fed, “natural” and “organic” not to mention all of the different cuts of meat.  Cornell Cooperative Extension is hosting a free class as an introduction to buying locally raised meat. The class will include an overview of the claims and terms used in meat marketing. There will also be an Ontario County farmer panel including those that raise lamb, beef and pork local meats.  This class is directed to consumers who are looking for education and information about buying locally raised meats. Buyers and culinary enthusiasts are welcome as well. Matt LeRoux, Cornell Cooperative Extension Agriculture Marketing Specialist from Tompkins County will be leading the class. He is a Farm Marketing Specialist with Cornell's South Central NY Regional Ag Team and has led many workshops focused on effective marketing skills for farms in addition to publishing guides such as the recent “Guide to Marketing Channels”.
