On 12/29/12 at 10:52am, Ontario County Sheriffs deputies responded to a two car motor vehicle accident on Main St. in Phelps near Pearl St. 61-year old Eugene Martin of Shortsville was west bound on Main St. when he stopped for a Fed Ex truck that was parked in the roadway to make a delivery. 52-year old Harlan J. Horton of Sodus was also west bound on Main St. and observed the stopped traffic but was unable to bring his truck to a stop before striking Mr. Martin's vehicle from the rear. 63-year old Mabel Martin of Shortsville and 28-year old Bethany Gleason-Burchard of Phelps were passengers in Mr. Martin's vehicle. Both ladies complained of neck and/or shoulder pain. They were subsequently transported to Clifton Springs Hospital by Pbelps Ambulance. Mr. Martin signed off on any medical treatment. Phelps Fire Department assisted at the scene. Witnesses stated that all motorists appeared to be traveling at a safe speed and commented that the roads were extremely hazardous due to the accumulating snow.
