On 09-07-12 the Ontario County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a MVA involving a Marcus Whitman School bus. The accident took place at the intersection of Baldwin Road and Co Rd 1 in the Town of Gorham.
43-year old Charles Lovejoy of Middlesex was traveling north on Co Rd 1 approaching the Baldwin Road intersection in his 1999 Dodge full size pickup truck. The schoolbus, operated by 44-year old Dawn Scheutzow of Penn Yan, was entering the intersection from Baldwin Road and pulled out in front of the Lovejoy vehicle. Lovejoy's vehicle struck the bus in the driver's side. Mrs. Scheutzow lost control of the bus, the bus exited the highway (west side of Co Rd 1) and overturned (came to rest on the passenger side). The accident took place in heavy fog, visibility was a major factor in the accident.
Several children were transported by the Middlesex Valley Ambulance, Fingerlakes Ambulance, Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance and the Canandaigua Ambulance to F.F. Thompson Hospital/ Soldiers and Sailors Hospital for treatment. The children sustained minor cuts and bruises. The Rushville Fire Department also responded to the scene.
On 09-29-12 the investigation was completed. Scheutzow was issued a traffic citation for failing to yield the right of way of a stop sign. She will appear at the Gorham Town Court at a later date.
