UPDATE: A Port Byron man is charged with Making a Terroristic Threat, after a 3-hour standoff at his home Friday evening.
Wayne County deputies say 36-year-old Joseph Wilmarth threatened to shoot a Wayne County Family Court Judge on a Facebook post.
Wilmarth then allegedly brandished a rifle at law enforcement responding to his Fuller Road home, before barricading himself inside.
Wilmarth eventually surrendered and was taken to Wayne County Jail on $10,000 bail, and will appear in court next month.
UPDATE 8:15PM: The hours long standoff at a mobile home at 7391 Fuller Rd. in the Town of Montezuma ended peacefully some time after 6:00pm Friday evening.
New York State Police Major Eric Laughton tells Finger Lakes New Radio a Trooper responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a distraught man that was received around 1:00pm. The responding trooper was met by a man armed with a long gun.
The State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and a hostage negotiator arrived on the scene as the standoff continued.
Eventually, the negotiator was able to convince the suspect to surrender.
With the shooting death of Trooper Nicholas Clark last week still fresh in the minds of law enforcement, Major Laughton said the operation was conducted with safety as the top priority.
Joseph Wilmarth was taken into custody by Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies. Wimarth has been charged with making a terroristic threat.
