Geneva-Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing & Health Sciences (FLHCON&HS) based at Geneva General Hospital has received a five-year award of continuing accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Education for Nursing (ACEN).
ACEN, based in Atlanta, GA, is responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs including Clinical Doctorate, Master’s Degree, Baccalaureate Degree, Associate Degree, Diploma, and Practical Nursing programs. The Commission has authority and accountability for carrying out the responsibilities inherent in the application of standards and criteria, accreditation processes, and the affairs, management, policy-making, and general administration of the ACEN. ACEN is nationally recognized as a specialized accrediting agency for both post-secondary and higher degree programs in nursing education.
Dr. Victoria Record, Ed D, RN CNE, Dean at FLHCON&HS, “We are very pleased to achieve accreditation status from ACEN.” She explained that the accreditation process is extensive and that receiving accreditation “demonstrates the College’s continued compliance with many stringent guidelines set forth by the ACEN and evidence the achievement of quality and excellence in nursing education.”
FLHCON&HS continues to demonstrate Finger Lakes Health’s commitment to education and nursing. The health system offers a certified nurse assistant (CNA) program at both the Geneva and Penn Yan (Soldiers & Sailors Memorial) hospitals, an LPN program through Marion S Whelan School of Practical Nursing. In addition to the RN program at FLHCON &HS, students may enroll in the Surgical Technology program or the Dual Degree program which is an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in partnership with Keuka College.
FLHCON&HS is one of eleven hospital-based nursing programs in New York State, and was founded in 2008. Since that time, 350 registered nurses have graduated and live and work in the Finger Lakes Region. This year, FLHCON&HS will celebrate ten years of training registered nurses.
