Six members of the Keuka College Softball team and Head Coach Jamie Burke were honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference on Thursday as the NEAC released their annual awards and all-conference teams.
Sophomores Jessie Hammers (Wayland, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton) and Colleen Mooney (Endicott, N.Y. / Union-Endicott) were named First Team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference. Senior catchers Mickenzie Palmer (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) and Katelyn Warren (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison). Rounding out the all-conference selections from Keuka College was freshman Whitney Tyler (Meshoppen, Pa. / Elk Lake) and senior Shannon Johnson (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park).
For the seventh time in her career, Keuka College Softball Head Coach Jamie Burke was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
Jessie Hammers had another standout year for the Wolves. She hit .379 on the season batting leadoff for the Green and Gold. Hammers ranked seventh in the conference with 33 hits and 24 runs scored this season. She leads the NEAC as 26 of those hits and 21 of the runs have come in North Eastern Athletic Conference games. Joining Hammers on the first team is fellow sophomore Colleen Mooney. Mooney has posted a 9-3 record on the season She has posted a pair of shutouts on the season, including her first career no-hitting in March against Houghton College.
Splitting the catching and designated player duties throughout the season were Mickenzie Palmer and Katelyn Warren. Fittingly, both were named Second Team All-Conference. Palmer ranks third in the NEAC and leads Keuka College with a .425 batting average. She posted 24 hits in 16 North Eastern Athletic Conference games for the Wolves. Katelyn Warren has totaled 25 hits this season for Keuka College. She has driven in 14 runs and scored 15 herself for the Green and Gold. The careers of the two seniors have been linked on the career hits list at Keuka. Mickenzie Palmer has 126 hits in her career and Warren has 124, ranking fourth and fifth on the Keuka College all-time list.
Freshman pitcher Whitney Tyler had a perfect ending to the regular season. She recorded the second perfect game in Keuka College history in a win over Morrisville State. The freshman leads Keuka College with 64.2 innings pitched and nine complete games this season. Also named to the third team was Shannon Johnson. The senior has posted a .302 batting average this season. She is tied for second on the team with 15 runs batted in. Johnson hit her first career home run, a grand slam, this season in a victory over SUNY Poly.
The Keuka College Softball team will open the 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at home on Thursday. The Wolves earned the top seed in the North Division and will host the fourth-seeded Cazenovia College Wildcats at 3pm. The winner of this first round game will advance to the double-elimination championship tournament being hosting by Penn St.-Berks this weekend.
