The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Red Flag Warning for Yates and Seneca Counties for gusty winds and low relative humidity’s, which is in effect until 9 tonight.
A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Heed all state and local burn bans.
An Air Quality Health Advisory is in effect for the entire Finger Lakes region today. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for ozone. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
