Alan R. Foster, 82, of The Grove, apt 104, Auburn, passed away peacefully on Sunday (April 15) at Auburn Community Hospital, with his wife and family by his side.
Calling hours will be Saturday (April 21) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a service to immediately follow at 12 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home Inc. 197 South St Auburn. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alan’s honor to Memorial Fund, St. Luke’s UCC 25 Seminary St. Auburn NY 13021
He was born in Auburn, the son of the late Cyril and Pauline Foster. He lived in Auburn all his life and retired as an Art Director from Guaranteed Parts Company, Seneca Falls, where he worked for 38 years. He was a very accomplished artist and a very knowledgeable car and racing enthusiast. He loved hiking, canoeing and camping with family in the Adirondack Mountains. He graduated from Auburn High School and attended Syracuse University. He was so proud of the fact that as a senior in high school he participated in the National Teenage Driving Rodeo and placed third in the Nation. He was a 10 year member of the National Guard, 3rd Armed Rifle Battalion , 108th Combat Arms where he achieved the ranks of Corporal before being Honorably Discharged.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara (Schell) Foster; one daughter, Donna (Russ) Markel, of Clarksville, Tenn.; four sons Mark (Eileen) of Davis, Calif., Jay (Liz) of Elbridge, Todd (Roxanne) of Auburn, Eric (Mary) of Auburn; eight grandchildren Amanda, Lucas, Steven , Krystal , Amber, Jonathan, Malia and Sharon; four great-grandchildren; niece, Kim; nephews David and Jeff ( Nancy).
He was predeceased by his parents Cyril and Pauline; brother, Conrad; and nephew, Doug.
