The village of Odessa has a new mayor.
Keith Pierce stepped down at the beginning of this week’s village board meeting. Pierce, who has served 9 years as mayor, was recently elected as Assistant Fire Chief of the Odessa Fire Department. State law prohibits him from holding two elected positions within a village. Before becoming mayor, Pierce served on the Odessa village board for four years.
53 year old Gerry Messmer, a retired Army Lieutenant Coloniel with more than 30 years military experience, was sworn in as Pierce’s successor.
