Following a month-long investigation by State Police, a village of Hornell Police Officer has been placed on paid leave after being charged with official misconduct and offering a false instrument for filing.
The investigation was conducted at the request of the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office. Jason Day is accused of failing to follow department policy and procedure when handling handguns, which had been voluntarily surrendered. Day is accused of providing a false written statement, with the knowledge that it would become part of State Police records.
Day will appear in court later this month.
