The owner of the Sterling Renaissance Festival is accused in a Department of Justice lawsuit of sexually harassing female tenants that rent from him in Oswego.
The lawsuit claims since at least 1990, Douglas Waterbury has sexually harassed several women that have lived at or inquired about, his properties, violating the Fair Housing Act. The lawsuit claims Waterbury demanded female tenants engage in sex acts with him to obtain or keep housing, offering housing benefits in exchange for sex acts, unwelcome sexual contact and refusing needed maintenance for female tenants that refused his advances. Last August, Central New York Fair Housing filed a similar lawsuit against Waterbury on behalf of six women.
The Department of Justice lawsuit seeks monetary damages, civil penalties and a court order barring future discrimination.
