A joint motion was filed in U.S. District Court Tuesday by NASCAR legend Tony Stewart and the family of Kevin Ward, Junior, to have Thursday’s settlement hearing postponed or canceled.
The hearing was set after it was learned earlier this month the two sides came to a settlement regarding a civil lawsuit filed by Ward’s family. Kevin Ward Jr. was killed after Stewart hit him with his car during a race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in 2014. Ward got out of his racer and started to walk towards Stewart’s car. Toxicology reports show Ward also had marijuana in his system.
In the joint motion, both sides claim their settlement agreement does not require the court’s approval and they wish to keep the settlement agreement confidential.
