A 31-year-old Ithaca man is in Tompkins County Jail after he allegedly robbed a South Meadow Street bank Thursday afternoon.
Benjamin Brancato is accused of entering the bank shortly after 1 o’clock with a knife and demanding money from a teller. After getting an undisclosed amount of cash, Brancato fled the bank on foot. After a description of Brancato was broadcast to police, a person matching Brancato’s description was seen by an officer standing in front of a nearby commercial business less than 20 minutes after the robbery. Bank employees positively identified Brancato as the bank robber.
He was taken into custody without incident and charged with felony robbery.
