The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new telephone scam they have been receiving reports on.
Residents have been receiving phone calls from multiple numbers that are identified as “Apple Pay”. Those calling claim they are advising suspicious activity has been noticed on their Apple Pay accounts, with the instructions for the receiver to click on three options on the Internet or to call back to a number provided. Investigators say when the originating number is called, a recording confirms that fraudulent calls are being made from that number and to report it to the FBI.
The frauds are being received from these phone numbers:
- (225) 765-3500
- (859) 971-5400
- (515) 440-9000
