Unity House recently moved its headquarters into the former West Middle School on Genesee Street. The agency announced on Thursday it has been awarded a $19,000 grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation that will be used to furnish and equip the agency’s large conference room in WMS Apartments.
The new “smart” conference room seats twenty people at the large convertible table, and is equipped with smart technology including two large flat screen televisions, computer hardware and software, and conference calling capabilities. The facility will be available for public use as space permits with advance reservations.
The former school building has been renovated into 59 income-eligible apartments, of which Unity House manages 20 for people with psychiatric disabilities. The mixed use affordable housing project is a joint venture between Unity House and Syracuse-based Two Plus Four Management, and has put the long vacant building back on the city tax rolls.
