Cayuga County’s Acting Emergency Service Manager is not hopeful an effort led by Congressman John Katko will get the Federal Emergency Management Agency to change course and declare a disaster for southern Cayuga County and other areas of New York devastated by last summer’s flooding.
Niel Rivenburgh tells Finger Lakes News Radio local highway officials are waiting for the snow still blanketing the southern end of the county to melt.
Once they can assess the situation, they can develop plans to replace the temporary fixes put into place following the July storms.
Katko said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News the situation is no different than the hurricanes that slammed Texas and Florida. He added he’s prepared to sit in Long’s office until he gets an explanation to why we can’t get the aid.
