Republican Assemblyman Gary Finch has joined Gov. Cuomo and others who are opposed to the State Parole Board’s decision to free a convicted cop killer.
In a statement released on Monday, Finch called the board’s decision to grant parole to Herman Bell disgusting and an insult to the memory of murdered NYPD officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones.
The 70-year old former Black Liberation Army member was convicted after the officers were shot multiple times after responding to a domestic violence report at a Harlem public housing complex in May 1971. Bell has been denied parole seven previous times.
Gov. Cuomo said during Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City the parole board’s decision sends the wrong signal.
