He was an All-American tight end in Syracuse University football, and later a color commentator for radio broadcasts. The local sports community is reeling from news late Friday night that Chris Gedney had died. Reports say the 47-year-old former college athlete-turned-broadcaster died on Friday night.
As news spread, tributes began to pour in on social media. Matt Park, the play-by-play voice of the Orange, worked with Gedney for 10 years in the broadcast booth.
I’m crushed to have lost my friend and broadcast partner. Geds had an incredibly generous heart. His love for the Syracuse community and Orange Football was surpassed only by that for his family. He will be greatly missed. #RIP84 https://t.co/mFbt2eXJNy

In an interview with Syracuse.com, Park remembered Gedney as a “presence” everywhere he went, and a man devoted to his family.
Gedney transitioned from playing on the field to broadcasting games in 1996, and joined the SU broadcasts in 2006.
