Waterloo’s Main Street School will one day soon become senior housing.
The Waterloo Board of Education voted this week to accept a $600,000 purchase offer for the sale of the vacant building from an East Syracuse developer. Lakewood Development/Two plus Four construction plans to turn the three-story building in 32-senior apartments.
The school auditorium will remain available for public uses.
The developers have converted old schools in Watkins Glen and Auburn into apartments.
The school, next to Lafayette Park, was built in 1928 and served as the high school until 1962. It then became the junior high school, then a middle school, and was last used in 2012 as a multi-age elementary school.
The school was closed in the summer of 2014.
