Auburn City Council on Thursday night will hear a presentation from Police Chief Shawn Butler in support of red flag legislation that would help family members and law enforcement deal with people with mental health issues who possess firearms.
Chief Butler said last month on the Finger Lakes Morning News there are times when his officers’ hands are tied.
Washington, Oregon, California, Connecticut and Indiana are the only states currently with “red flag” laws. New York is one of 18 states currently considering similar legislation
Council will also hear a first reading of an ordinance authorizing a $2.25 Million bond to finance the costs of the reconstruction of the city wastewater plant. The improvements would include a significant upgrade to the ultraviolet system as well as professional services to assist with the mapping of the City’s sewer system.
