Auburn teachers are being offered a retirement incentive.
District Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo tells Finger Lakes News Radio the school board on Tuesday approved a memorandum of agreement with the teachers union that offers at least a $5000 incentive if a teacher submits a retirement letter no later than March 1.
The incentive will also help offset the loss of jobs caused by the closing of Cayuga Centers, which employs 19 school district teachers.
The agreement says if the district receives more than 15 letters by March 1 the incentive increases to $7500. Pirozzolo says he’s anticipating around 16 letters will be received.
