A 51-year-old Montezuma man has been charged with falsely reporting an incident following the investigation into a letter received through the mail by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office back in December.
That letter claimed an individual had made threats of violence against Auburn High School. Detectives were able to rule out the person implicated as a threat to the school or any other location. The letter was sent to the State Police lab for analysis since its source was unable to be determined. After being identified as the author of the letter, Joseph Chehovich admitted to writing it. Investigators determined Chehovich to not be a credible threat to the school district.
He will appear in Sennett Town Court Wednesday.
