Philip J. Newby, 68, passed away Friday (February 9, 2018) at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday (February 14) at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday (February 15) at St. Michael’s Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan.

Phil was born in Penn Yan on September 10th, 1949, the son of the late Margaret A. (Mahar) and Robert V. Newby. Phil lived a life full of family, friends, and love. Phil was a loving father, and a lover of music, literature, and nature. After a long career in medical technology, he spent his retirement volunteering at the Literacy Volunteers and Milly’s Pantry, reading, and enjoying the outdoors and the company of friends and family.
Phil is survived by his sons Kyle (Katherine) of Rochester, Patrick of Penn Yan and Alex of Rome; granddaughter, Molly; the mother of his children, Rhonda Dodson of Waterloo, brother, Terrall “Terry” B. Newby; best friend, JR Campbell of Dundee; and several cousins.
