Several animals were removed from an Elmira home due to unsanitary conditions.
Animal Control officials say they took 4 dogs, 3 cats, 6 guinea pigs, 2 rabbits, and 2 chinchillas from the Lyon Street home late Friday morning.
The animals were taken to the Elmira Animal Shelter for medical treatment.
No arrests have been made yet.
February 9th 2018, Elmira City Animal Control Unit executed a search warrant at 585 Lyon St in the City of Elmira. The search warrant was the result of an investigation regarding inhuman treatment of several animals, all living in unsanitary conditions at that location. At 11:15 am, Animal Control made entry to the property and seized three adult dogs, one puppy, three cats, six guinea pig, two rabbits and two chinchillas along with three dead animals. All animals were removed and transported for medical treatment and evaluation. They remain under care while being impounded at the Elmira Animal Shelter, 842 Linden Place Ext. Elmira. Elmira City Animal Control was assisted at the scene by Elmira Police Dept. and Elmira Code Enforcement. Investigation is continuing, no arrest have been made at this time.
