Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Luce wants to alert Seneca County residents about a phone scam that has hit neighboring counties.
Individuals claiming to be a representative from the Civil Division of the Sheriff’s Office are claiming that a civil fee had been court-ordered and must be paid by a pre-paid Visa card to avoid further legal action. This scam has been reported in the Wayne and Cayuga County areas.
Sheriff Luce reminds citizens that the Sheriff’s Office does not contact individuals by phone regarding payments, or ask for payments over the phone. Disregard any calls from someone demanding cash payments and never give out personal identifying information over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious phone call that you would like to report – call the Sheriff’s Office at (315) 539-9241.
