Auburn’s Seward House Museum has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Network to Freedom.
The grant was made possible by the National Park Service and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
Director of Education Jeff Ludwig said on last month’s Finger Lakes Morning News the funds will be used for preservation, research and an exhibition related to the Underground Railroad.
Development Director Allie Hinman added the University of Rochester has most of the Seward family papers which stills provides new details to this day.
Researchers will look into the Seward family’s involvement in the underground railroad and their use of Seward House as a stop on the route for freed slaves heading north. Plans call for a new exhibit and space for an interactive gallery.
