A 29 year old Ithaca man will spend at least the next three years in prison after being sentenced Monday for his role in a one-car accident that killed a passenger back in October of 2016.
Johnathan Byrd was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 3 to 9 years in state prison by Chemung County Judge Christopher Baker. Byrd was behind the wheel of a car that crashed in the westbound lane of I-86 near the Route 13 exit in Horseheads. After traveling off the shoulder of the road, Byrd’s car continued into the grassy median while overturning several times. 19 year old Luciano Servetto, of Ithaca, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Byrd pleaded guilty to felony second-degree manslaughter.
