Dale Reichard Hartman, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday (January 25, 2018) at the Homestead surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held at the Penn Yan Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on February 10, 2018. A gathering for family and friends will follow immediately at the Penn Yan Moose Club. Burial will be private at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dale’s memory may be made to the Yates County History Center, 107 Chapel St. Penn Yan, NY 14527, or to the Homestead, Unit 3, 418 North Main St Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Dale was born July 5, 1936 in Penn Yan, New York to the late Harold R. and Hilda M. (Kinyoun) Hartman. He married Audrey J. Race on July 4, 1958. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Dale worked for the NYSDOT for 36 years retiring in 1987. A lifetime resident of Penn Yan, Dale spent much of his adolescent years growing up on Bluff Point. He worked for Paul Garrett
in their vineyards and was a member of the Bluff Point Boys and the Bluff Point Blitzer’s 4-H groups. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours on the Bluff with all of his family; whether it was driving them around the Scott Road loop, leading them on numerous trails or hunting deer with Audrey, Pat and Garrett. Dale was a veteran having served in the National Guard, Company C 108th Armored Infantry Battalion at the Geneva State Armory. In his free time, Dale enjoyed traveling and helping his family with numerous building projects. He always had time for and fully supported his grandchildren. Dale was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Audrey; he is survived by a sister, Faye E (Jim) Castner; his five children Cynthia (Ron) Thompson, Barbara (Barry) Hines, Patrick (Brenda) Hartman, Naomi (Tim) Ellis and Jenifer (Ray) West; eleven grandchildren Sean (Dao) Thompson, Chris Thompson, Joseph (Jen) Hines, Karen (Ryan) Kennerson, Jessica Hines, Garrett Hartman, Kyle Hartman, Lukas Smith, Erin Ellis, Sierra West and Gavin West; five great-grandchildren Joliette, Joseph, Joshua and James Hines and Madison Kennerson; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine, Barney.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Harold R. and Hilda M. Hartman; two brothers Karol R. Hartman, Bruce Hartman; sister, Judith A. McGinnis.
Dales’s family would like to thank all the staff at the Homestead, Units 2 & 3 for the wonderful, and compassionate care Dale received.
