An Auburn man who sued Cayuga County for injuries sustained while in custody at the county jail will get roughly $300 thousand in court-ordered compensation.
In November, County Court Judge Mark Fandrich ruled in favor of Richard Andrews’ suit alleging he suffered injuries during siezures brought on when custody officers kept his medication from him.
On Tuesday, the legislature voted not to appeal the judgement. County Administrator Justin Woods tells Finger Lakes News Radio it was a sound fiscal decision.
Woods adds the decision is not a reflection on the Sheriff’s Office.
Judge Fandrich awarded Andrews approximately $244,000 for pain and suffering and roughly $61,000 for medical expenses.
