As jury selection wrapped up in his murder trial, Justin Barkley pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon to charges of manslaughter and menacing a police officer for the 2016 killing of a UPS driver outside the Ithaca Walmart.
The 39 year old was initially charged with second-degree murder and menacing. The Dryden man admitted to intentionally causing the death of 52 year old William Schumacher in December of 2016. Barkley shot Schumacher and ran over his body in the parking lot before fleeing the scene. Barkley told police he thought he shot then President-Elect Donald Trump.
Barkley will spend 25 years in state prison on the manslaughter charge and 8 years for menacing. As part of the plea, he waived his right to an appeal.
