Democrat Patrick Mahunik was elected Chairman of the Cayuga County Legislature by a 9-6 vote on Thursday night. Mahunik replaces former Chairman Keith Batman, who decided not to run for a third term as Chairman.
Mahunik tells Finger Lakes News Radio his goal is to loosen the reins on new County Administrator Justin Woods.
He adds that Woods has already made quite an impression.
Republican Legislator Tim Lattimore was elected to serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Legislature, while newcomer Elane Daly was chosen as the Majority Leader and Mike Didio was selected to serve as Minority Leader. Mahunik says he’s looking forward to working with Lattimore.
Newly elected and re-elected legislators were also sworn in during the legislature’s reorganization ceremony. In addition to District 11 Legislator Elane Daly, District 9 Legislator Charlie Ripley and District 4 Legislator Christopher Petrus all took the oath of office for the first time. Petrus will serve out the remainder of former Legislator Mark Farrell’s term after he resigned in 2016.
