(Seneca Falls, NY) The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and Lyons National Bank will host the organization’s 50th Annual Dinner Meeting and Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 19 at Club 86 in Geneva. The event is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will feature a Cocktail Reception (featuring Knapp Wine and Muranda Cheese), Silent Auction (sponsored by ITT Goulds Pumps), Live Auction, Dinner, Year in Review Video and presentation of the 2017 Shining Star Award Winners.
The Chamber congratulates all of the 2017 award recipients for their significant contributions to our community:
Business of the Year Award, sponsored by del Lago Resort & Casino, will be presented to Muranda Cheese Company of Waterloo, NY. Started in 2007, the business grew from a local dairy farm owned and operated by Tom and Nancy Murray. It has become one of the most renowned cheese producers in the Finger Lakes Region and widely featured in award-winning restaurants from the Finger Lakes to New York City. In 2017, the business experienced a major expansion with the addition of a renovated barn for weddings and special events, additional tasting rooms and a new aging space to help keep up with demand. Muranda also secured a license to provide local wine tastings in addition to the cheese – offering visitors to the local wine trails a complimentary experience like no other.
Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by the MRB Group, will be presented to retired NYS Senator Michael F. Nozzolio. As one of the longest tenured state officials in local history, Senator Nozzolio was a tireless advocate for jobs and economic development in our community. His efforts earned him the nickname “Senator of the Finger Lakes.” His contributions led to growth of the local wine industry, creation of both the Finger Lakes Institute and the Institute of Food Safety. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by Five Star Bank, will be presented to Dennis Money of Canandaigua, NY. Money was the founder of Seneca White Deer – a group that he started to preserve and protect the unique herd of white, white-tailed deer located on the former Seneca Army Depot in Romulus. Money’s efforts produced international attention for both the White Deer and the Finger Lakes Region. His crusade lasted nearly two decades. In 2017, working with local businessman Earl Martin, a partnership was developed that will ensure preservation of the deer herd, additional wildlife and military history continues on for future generations. In November, 2016, the return of White Deer tours resumed to sold-out crowds.
Seneca County Rising Star Award, sponsored by ITT Goulds Pumps, will be presented to Brandi Rozelle. The young professional is being recognized for her distinguished career at the Waterloo Library and Historical Society – rising to her present level of Library Director. Her efforts have helped the organization become the top library in the local system – with the largest circulation of books, audio books and dvd’s. She has implemented a host of initiatives, such as “food for fines,” a free pantry for impoverished youth and area homeless and the library’s own memorial garden. Her leadership in children’s literacy programming has produced an acclaimed series called “messy time” – providing a hands-on experience to compliment the educational lessons.
