Carmen Orlando, age 74, died on Thursday (December 21, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital with his family by his side.
Friends may call on Wednesday (December 27) from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday ( Dec. 28) 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Phelps with Father Peter VanLieshout officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Phelps Ambulance PO Box 81 Phelps, N.Y. 14532 or Happy Tails 2976 County Road 48 Canandaigua N.Y. 14424.
Carmen was born on October 6, 1943, in Rochester, N.Y. the son of the late Salvatore and Mary Morello Orlando. He graduated from State University College at Geneseo with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. He retired from Geneva City School District where he worked for 34 years. He was a teacher and supervisor of the Special Education Department. He was a past member of the Geneva Teachers Association serving as Vice-President for four years and President for four years. He was also a past member of the New York State United Teachers Assoc. and New York Education Assoc. He was also a lifetime member of the National Education Assoc. Carmen served as Phelps Town Justice for 18 years, Town Supervisor for eight years, Ontario County Board of Supervisors serving as Vice Chair for two years and Chairman for two years. Carmen was a past member of the Geneva Lions Club and Phelps Rotary Club. He was also a part-time Deputy Sheriff for Ontario County and the Phelps Police Dept. and an Honorary member of the Phelps Ambulance Corp.
Carmen is survived by his son, Christopher (Lisa) Orlando of Phelps; grandchildren Brittan (Jordan) Blaser, Colby Orlando, Christy Orlando, Mason Jones and Sydney Jones all of Phelps; and two sister-in-laws Dianna Orlando of Bloomfield and Josephine Orlando of Geneseo.
