Lois Tyler Benning, age 79, of Watson Rd., died peacefully at home on Friday (December 22, 2017).
Calling hours with the family will be held Friday (December 29) from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Clyde United Methodist Church, 84 Sodus Street with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Maple Grove Cemetery, Clyde, NY, Clyde-Savannah Public Library, 204 Glasgow St, Clyde, NY 14433, or to Lifetime Hospice, 3111 South Winton Rd., Rochester, N.Y., 14623
Lois was born in Binghamton, May 17, 1938, daughter of Harold and Dorothy Engelbert Tyler. After graduating from Cornell University, she married J. Arthur (Art) Benning and moved to Clyde. She started a family and taught at area schools for 22 years. She then worked for Wayne County DSS for 14 years before retiring. She was a member of the Finger Lakes Antique Power Club, a life member of Galen Historical Society and the Wayne County Historical Society. She participated with the Finger Lakes Live Steamers Scale Model Train Club and the Finger Lakes Blue Grass Association. Lois enjoyed quilting, writing the Clippings from Clyde for the Lakeshore News, and listening to bluegrass music.
Lois is survived by three sons Dan (Lynn) of Port Washington, Wis., Bill (Debbie) of Clyde, John (Charlene) of North Rose; nine grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Alice Sherman of Elbridge and Marjorie Benning-Trent (Angus) of Sequim, Wash.; brother-in-law, Robert Cockram, Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
