The 43 year old Corning Fire Department Lieutenant arrested in September following a 10 month investigation into the sale of heroin in Horseheads will retire following his paid suspension, which is over at the end of next month.
Thomas Margeson is charged with felony criminal sale of a controlled substance. Margeson was suspended with pay following his arrest and was also demoted from Lieutenant to fire fighter 3rd grade. That demotion dropped his base salary some 23-THOUSAND dollars to about 46-THOUSAND dollars. WETM-TV reports Margeson will also forfeit all post-retirement benefits such as cash outs for accrued time and health insurance and his pension status will be determined by the state.
He was sworn in as a Lieutenant three years ago and also served as Assistant Chief of the Horseheads Volunteer Fire Department.
No trial date for Margeson has been set.
