Pete Tyler was officially sworn in as the new Chief of Police at the Ithaca Police Department Wednesday.
The ceremony took place in the Borg Warner Room at the Tompkins County Public Library. Tyler was appointed by Mayor Svante Myrick and unanimously approved by Ithaca Common Council earlier this month. The 49 year old Tyler has been with the department for 26 years and has most recently served as acting police chief since John Barber retired in March.
In his remarks, Mayor Myrick said he is “convinced Tyler is the right person for the job.”
