William J. “Bill” Forbes, 65, the husband of Sharon Smith Forbes, of O’Neil Road, Conquest, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Auburn, Bill retired after 25 years as a corrections officer from Butler Correctional Facility. In addition, he owned and operated Emerson Trees and Wreaths in Conquest for 32 years. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. Together with his wife, Sharon, Bill enjoyed camping and traveling to Florida in their motor home. Bill’s greatest love was his family and he cherished all the times he shared with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, Bill is survived by two daughters, Christine Fordyce and her husband, Hugh, of Baldwinsville, and Cheryl Prior and her husband, Charles, of Manlius; three sisters, Beverly Kent, of Auburn, Joan Scialdone and her husband, Sam, of Indiana, and Ruth Breeze and her husband, Joe, of Auburn; five grandchildren, Billy Hugh, Julianna Christine and Calvin Joseph Fordyce, and Noah Forbes and Charlie Alton Prior; brother-in-law, Greg Trutschel; close family friend, Brad Lasher, whom Bill treated like a son; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William D. and Patricia Reidy Forbes, Bill was predeceased by one sister, Judith Trutschel.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be offered at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in St. Mary’s Church. A spring burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Weedsport is being planned. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.
