Assembly Minority leader Brian Kolb is announcing his candidacy for Governor today. Kolb says he’s confident he can raise enough money, should he get the Republican nomination.
Kolb says if his campaign catches fire, the money will come.
Kolb, who is 65 years old, is the longest-tenured state legislative leader. He was selected to lead the Assembly Republican conference in April 2009. He was first elected to the state Assembly in 2000. His district includes all of Ontario County and part of Seneca County.
He has considered running for higher office before. He was mentioned as a possible candidate for Congress in 2010 and 2012, but he opted not to run. He asked to run against U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010. He passed on that race, too.
Kolb hopes to capture the nomination at the party convention, bypassing a primary.

Kolb Running to End Corruption, Lower Taxes, Create Jobs, and Deliver Real Solutions
Canandaigua, NY – Earlier today, State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb announced his candidacy for New York Governor. Brian Kolb is running for Governor to deliver real solutions to the very real problems New Yorkers are facing under Andrew Cuomo. As Governor, Kolb would put an end to the political corruption and mismanagement plaguing the Governor’s office, lower New York’s cripplingly high taxes that make it too difficult for hardworking families to get ahead, and grow our economy to help businesses create good, sustainable jobs.
With an unemployment rate exceeding the national average, the nation’s highest tax burden, and the nation’s second-worst business climate, Andrew Cuomo and his administration are failing New York’s families.
“Corruption and dysfunction in Albany have transformed our state for the worse and left many feeling powerless to fight back – that ends today,” said Kolb. “As a proud native New Yorker, I believe in our state and I’ll stop at nothing to fix it. We deserve leadership that will foster growth in our economy and replace corruption with accountability. I’m running for Governor because I believe New York’s greatest days are ahead of us and, with the right leadership, we can make that happen now.”
