Last week The Smith got an early holiday gift from a very good neighbor.
CEO/Chairman Robert A. Schick and Geneva Branch Manager/Assistant Vice President Tara Rago from The Lyons National Bank stopped by to present us with a check for $5,000 to support our ArtSmart Educational Theatre Program.
We at the Smith are so grateful for Lyons National Bank’s continued support of ArtSmart. Their financial support subsidizes ticket prices, making live theater accessible and affordable for local school districts. ArtSmart programming ties directly to school curricula and allows teachers to inspire and challenge learners to make connections to theatre, music, literature and global culture.
Here is how Bob described to us why LNB chooses to support ArtSmart:
“Since its inception, The Lyons National Bank has been proud to be the major sponsor of The Smith’s Arts Smart Program for children. We realize the importance of teaching our future leaders about the cultural value of arts of all types.
In 1962, President Kennedy, speaking on behalf of the National Cultural Center (which would come to bear his name) stated, ‘I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we, too, will be remembered not for our victories or defeats in battle or politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit.’
Supporting the Arts Smart Program is our small contribution to that spirit.”
ArtSmart provides educational shows specifically designed for school groups throughout the Finger Lakes region. Children’s picture books and classic literature, United States history and world history, relevant social issues and experiences are all transformed and presented live on the Smith Opera House stage. This series is designed to encourage thinking, creativity and fun while complementing school lessons.
