The village of Penn Yan will pay a 5-THOUSAND dollar fine for a sludge spill that entered the Keuka Lake Outlet back in August.
The Chronicle-Express reports in addition to the fine paid to the DEC, the village will follow compliance steps to prevent future spills from the sewage treatment plant. Approximately 35-THOUSAND gallons of sludge spilled into the Outlet and during a 12 month period starting in July of 2016, Penn Yan reported numerous instances of surpassing the limits of specific discharges from the plant.
If the village fails to meet the conditions of the agreement with the DEC, it might be required to pay a now suspended penalty of 42-THOUSAND dollars.
