The Syracuse man accused of threatening Congressman John Katko’s life over the “net neutrality” issue will undergo a mental competency exam.
Syracuse.com reports a forensic psychologist will check over 28-year-old Patrick Angelo, prior to his detention hearing on Wednesday.
US Capitol Police say Angelo left a voice mail at Katko’s office, threatening to kill him and his family if Katko doesn’t show his support for continuing the current net neutrality rules.
A federal judge will determine whether Angelo is a threat, before deciding whether or not he will be released prior to his trial.
Angelo is charged with making a threat in interstate and foreign commerce and threatening to kill a congressman engaged in the performance of his official duties, and faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
