ORRIN MASTIN (PROVIDED)
Human remains found just outside of the village of Bath in February have been identified as those of a Bath man.
Orrin Mastin was last seen at a group home on January 18th, 2013, and was subsequently reported missing to the Bath Village Police Department. Mastin was 53 years old at the time of his disappearance. The skeletal remains were discovered by a hiker just north of Wood Street and west of Muck Circle outside of the Bath village limits. An investigation in 2013 noted that Mastin did not take any personal effects with him when he was last seen, including his wallet, credit cards, or medications. He had just been released from an area hospital and grew up in the Hornell-Dansville area and had family living in Dansville.
Investigators say the remnants of clothing observed on the remains closely resembled the last reported clothing description of Mastin, and the location of the remains was consistent with his last known direction of travel on foot. The investigation into the cause of Mastin’s death is continuing, and foul play is not suspected.
