Cayuga County has a budget for the upcoming year. The legislature approved the $146 Million spending plan after no one from the public spoke during the public hearing portion of Tuesday’s meeting.
The budget includes a 2% increase in the tax levy and a $580 thousand dip into the county fund balance, but Legislature Chair Keith Batman tells Finger Lakes News Radio it is a paper draw.
The budget also includes a pair of $2 Million reserve accounts for county highways and county buildings. Legislator Mike Didio suggested creating a $1 Million reserve from the fund balance to deal with water quality issues, but Batman suggested the idea should go through the Legislature’s committee process. There will be an $18,000 line item for water quality testing for Cayuga Lake.
